Would a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution on ringworm kill the bacteria?
Hello, I think that the name is confusing, but in fact ‘ringworm’ is neither a worm nor a bacterium, but a fungus. Like the green fungus that grows on the skin of old oranges, except that this one likes human skin. I say ‘fungus,’ but in fact there are several different fungi which will grow on human skin. Also, the fungus doesn’t invade ‘living’ human skin, it invades the outermost horny layer of the skin which is technically ‘dead.’ I don’t think hydrogen peroxide would kill the fungus reliably, although I think it would give it a nasty fright. Hydrogen peroxide is a reasonably good antiseptic against real bacteria. There are about 3 ways of getting rid of the ringworm fungus. The first way is to apply an anti- fungal antibiotic to the skin as a cream or ointment. Good ones are Lamisil and Canesten cream. The second way is to give the anti- fungal by mouth as a tablet. The antibiotic circulates round the body in the blood, and gets taken up by the skin and incorporated into ‘new,’ fr
