Would Basil, Chilies and Coriander survive winter?
Basil and Coriander are NOT perennials. They are annuals. There are a couple of varieties of basil that are long-lived, and could easily be overwintered indoors. But there wouldn’t be a very good reason to keep the same plant for years. I’d sow some in pots in late summer, and bring those in for the winter, which may do well until next summer’s crop is ready outdoors. Coriander is a very short-lived annual. I sow it about every 3 weeks to keep the fresh leaves on hand. I let some of them go to flower, which will provide scads of seeds for future sowings. It can definitely be grown indoors on a bright windowsill – but it’s best to just sow seeds every 4-6 weeks to have a continual fresh supply. In the ground in spring and summer, and then in pots in fall and winter for indoor growing. Chili plants are actually perennial. You should be able to grow them inside over winter.
