Would bringing some form of national service into Britain help curb our obesity problems and teach discipline?
This is a very expensive proposition and I wonder who in the UK would consent to pay for it. Besides, severe discipline problems rarely make good team players. Occasionally they do, but not often. Probably the best organization that makes winners out of potential losers is the US Marine Corps, but that level of training and discipline is probably not going to work with draftees into civilian service corps.
The problem is you punish the innocent to apply the same to people who don’t want or need it. National Service in the UK was just a continuation of the bullying people had to suffer in schools but performed by people better at it. Before you advocate such things for others you should think about whether you would have liked 2 years of your life stolen from you that way.
