Would poster paper curl if I paint with acrylics?

It probably would, especially if you use a lot of it. A good solution is, if you really want to use acrylics on paper, to first paint the paper with gesso or acrylic-matte medium which can be found at most art stores. Not only does this make it easier to paint on the paper, but also would prevent the paper from curling. To use the acrylic matte medium, all you have to do is put some in a bowl and dilute it with water. Tape the paper onto the floor. Using a large paintbrush, like 2 or 3 inches, evenly paint a coat of this matte medium/water mixture over the whole paper. You may want to do more than one layer, but first wait for the previous layer to dry before painting over another one. This might get messy. Once all is dry and well, you can sketch out your portrait using graphite, or start painting right away and it shouldn’t curl.
