The reason Beige is so popular is that you can match so many colours to it, so when laying throughout a house your dcor can still be very varied. Duck egg looks lovely on the floor and will brighten your house but it is more restrictive to decorate to. Blue has a similar issue. Grey and some of the more mineral shades coming through in the newer ranges give you the same neutral properties in terms of decoration but a change from beige. Alternatively give each room its own colour scheme including different colour carpets. Then allow the creative juices to really flow.
