Martinez: No. In my administration, there will be no higher priority than rooting out corruption. We must make it easier to report corruption through whistle-blower protections and pass reforms to prevent elected officials or political appointees from influencing the awarding of contracts. We must pass tougher laws to eliminate conflict of interests and provide greater transparency in government to provide more knowledge to the voters. Corruption must be dealt with by law enforcement, not turned over to another toothless bureaucracy, which is my concern with this proposed commission. It is just another end-around for those engaged in unethical practices. We need real ethical leadership, stronger penalties, and real enforcement.
