Wouldn’t this Initiative actually cripple the efficient functioning and growth of government?
No, not at all. This measure will result in a more orderly growth of government spending. It will encourage our elected officials to prioritize spending needs, evaluate them and eliminate low priority programs to fund higher priority spending. Government would thus make decisions just like taxpayers have to make in deciding how to spend their limited resources. Further, much additional governmental spending is done at the behest of special interests seeking tax dollars 2. This measure would help ensure that these requests be presented to those of us who would have to fund them and give us a chance to decide if we believe they should be funded at the expense of our family budget.
