You mention “pyrethrins” and synthetic pyrethrins “pyrethroids”. Will these be used in my residential system?
The only time we would recommend the synthetic versions of pyrethrum, known as pyrethrins, would be in the applications of horse stable and dog kennels. Most systems designed for horses will have the chemical misting directly over the stall, so it adheres to the horse’s hair, before it goes out to feed. If the horses were misted with the water based pyrethrins (Hydro Py-300 or RipTide), the chemical would break down within 15-20 minutes of exposure to UV light and be less effective than oil based pyrethroids in controlling mosquitoes and the deadly diseases they carry. In residential applications, the natural water based, pyrethrums are more than adequate at controlling insects, so there is not aneed for oil-based pyrethrins.
