There’s a combination of things. You have to accept there’s been the retirements of players who’ve been in the England team for over ten years – Martin Johnson, Lawrence Dallaglio, Jason Leonard. All of these players retiring, added to the injuries of Jonny Wilkinson and the like – you can’t have the basis of 80 per cent team retire and expect the success to carry on. You have to bring in new blood. And also, other nations are going to have pretty much the same sort of team, so have a squad who’ve played together for a long time. So it’s a set of circumstances that has led to, I suppose, the decline of English rugby. We’re not going to see success for sometime until we get consistency in selection, until we get a number ten who’s consistently playing well and is not injured and we get a team who are training together, with players who’ve got 30 or 40 caps.
