Last year I helped my parents with some paperwork that required passport information, and we double-checked everything because one wrong character could cause delays. While doing that, I started wondering if automated MRZ scanners are actually more accurate than careful manual typing. Humans can read and understand context, but we also get tired or distracted. Are MRZ scanners reliable enough to trust them for important documents, or are they mainly a convenience feature?
