The CGA (cumulative grade average) is the average weighted grade obtained from all courses you have taken at HKUST. In general, the GGA (graduation grade average) is calculated from the courses that are presented for the award of a degree. Examples are available in Academic Programs Manual (UG program), UG60, item 3.For CSE students, by default, the grades of all courses are included in your GGA calculation. However, you can choose to exclude surplus courses if you so wish. At the end of each semester, the department will ask those students who expect to graduate that semester to inform the department if they wish to exclude any surplus courses from the GGA calculation.Note that surplus COMP courses taken during undergraduate study may be used to partially fulfill the course requirement of our MPhil or PhD program if you continue to pursue postgraduate study at HKUST.
