How much food can be frozen at one time in a home freezer?
The capacity of the freezer determines how much food can be frozen in it at one time. It is best not to try to freeze more than one-tenth of the capacity of a freezer, or no more than 3 pounds per cubic foot, in a 24 hour period. If there is other food in the freezer, too much warm food added to the compartment will raise the temperature of both the air and the already frozen food, causing loss of quality. Before you put additional food in the freezer, cool it in the refrigerator. Within 24 hours of adding the food, the freezer should be down to normal temperature and the food frozen solid.
