What is the difference between NVLAP (the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program) and A2LA?

The only real difference between these two organizations is that NVLAP is affiliated with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) while A2LA resides the private sector, however, both agencies audit to ISO/IEC IS 17025 (formally ISO Guide 25).
