Members of the Optical Industry Association’s Lens Processing Technology Division agreed in 1994 to develop standards for data communication between equipment and computer systems in the ophthalmic laboratory. These members wrote a mission statement and formed a task group of the most qualified experts in the industry to develop the standards as follows.
