Easy Cake Doughnuts

  1. Impress your family or guest with homemade cake doughnuts. Best of all they will taste like they just came from the bakery. No one will ever know how easy they were to make. Don’t think you have to make them for breakfast alone, these sweets are a real treat anytime. They are best cooked in the deep fryer. But can be made on the stove in a deep kettle. You can serve them plain, with a drizzle icing, or sprinkled with powder sugar. No matter what you choose, you can’t go wrong. Don’t forget to fry up those doughnut holes also. Very yummy!


    COOKING TIME: 2-3 minutes per doughnut

    SERVES: 2 dozen



    Vegetable oil

    1 egg

    3 1/3 cup flour

    1 cup sugar

    3 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

    2 tablespoons shortening



    1. Heat oil to 375 degrees in the deep fryer.


    2. Beat 2 cups of flour with all remaining ingredients on low speed for about a minute.


    3. Beat with remaining flour on medium speed, while scraping sides of bowl for another minute.


    4. Place dough on parchment paper lightly sprinkled with flour.


    5. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thick.


    6. Cut with floured doughnut cutter.


    7. Use a wide spatula to slide dough into the fryer.


    8. Fry each side for 1- 1 1/2 minutes.


    9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
