  1. The health benefits of goldenseal are vast and it is an excellent herb to have on hand. Goldenseal helps support the immune system and contains germ-fighting properties that can help eliminate viruses.


    Goldenseal has been used for centuries as an effective: antiseptic, astringent, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic agent. This herb can be used in tea form topically or orally. When you infuse Goldenseal root or powder it releases the active constitutes to helps to optimize all the health benefits of this herb. Goldenseal tea is made by infusing the powder or root in boiling water.


    Practical Uses:




    This herb is great to use when you feel that a cold or flu maybe coming on. Goldenseal contains germ fighting constitutes that help kill viruses. It is suggested to take 125mg of goldenseal extract four times a day for five days. This should help to stimulate your immune system. Should cold persist see your physician.


    Conjunctivitis: This herb can be used as eyewash to help fight infection, due to its anti-bacterial constituent Berberine.

    The recipe for eyewash: take 1 teaspoon of dried goldenseal, place in boiling water for around 10-15 min. You then strain and let cool. To apply use a sterile eyedropper. Apply drops three times a day.


    Sinus Problems: The tea  can be  used to relive sinus problem either orally or used as nasal wash.


    Anti-Diarrheal- Drinking goldenseal tea in many cases can help reduce diarrhea because as mention before contains the constitute called Berberine. Berberine is effective in killing microbes that can cause problems in your gastrointestinal system.


    Although goldenseal is wonderful and versatile herb to use there are some precautions that you should be aware of: This Herb should not be use for more that one week and never take more than 2g a day.

    Do not use if you are: pregnant, have high blood pressure, hypoglycaemia, suffering from an auto-immune disease, or if you are allergic to plants in the daisy family.
