1. Best Bay Area Backroads

    The San Francisco Bay Area is a fascinating vacation spot and there are plenty of places to discover. If you are looking for something more serene you only have to take short road trips on the back roads to find Mother Nature at its best. Below you will find just a few of the things you can do if you want to explore another side of San Francisco.

    Morgan Territory-If you travel to Mount Diablo and go east you will find a hidden oasis of natural beauty at Morgan Territory Regional Preserve, which covers over four thousand acres. This pristine preserve is just a short drive from Livermore. It has diverse landscape, including woodlands, lush valleys and colorful wildflowers. In the springtime is when you can gaze upon the rare Mount Diablo sunflower and watch in awe as the prairie falcons fly above.

    Ring Mountain-This well kept secret in Tiburon is a vast rugged area that is the home to the rare Tiburon Mariposa Lily. The unique soil here produces a variety of plants and wildflowers that are indigenous to this area. In the springtime the wildflowers are abundant and as the seasons change you will be able to see a variety of flowers in full bloom. The Ring Mountain trail will let you observe some of the best views around. Mingled in with the flowers you will find boulders that are decorated with Indian carvings.

    Wavecrest– Just south of Half Moon Bay you will find some beautiful coastal land. You can walk the trails that run throughout the area. From this vantage point you can see breathtaking views of the cliffs and the birds of prey that reside here, including the raptor. This is a beautiful rustic area that has so far been untouched by man. You will be in awe of the sheer rustic beauty of this rugged coastal area.

    Rancho Corral de Tierra-This treasure trove of natural beauty is just minutes from San Francisco and encompasses the Montara Mountain and the scenic foothills. There are many trails that can be hiked all over this area and can be enjoyed by all. The panoramic view from atop the foothills of the coastal terrain is breathtaking.

    San Pablo Ridge Trail-This is one of many trails that can be hiked in the Wildcat Canyon Regional Park. It gives you access to some of the most incredible views of the Bay Area that can be found. From this vantage point you can see Suisun Bay, San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. You will need to make sure you have on your hiking boots because you will have to climb a ways. However, once you reach the top it will be well worth it for the view of a lifetime.
