Your colon serves an important part of your body. When you eat and digest food, your colon does the work of absorbing the vitamins and nutrients of those foods. It is the last part of the digestive system before your wastes can be expelled.

Colon cleansing is important to keep your digestive system running properly by keeping what your body needs to use, and expelling it does not. People have practiced colon cleansing since the times of ancient Greece. The British Medical Association once said “Disease and death begins with the colon.” It is also said that if the colon is sick, the body is sick. If the colon is healthy, the body is healthy.

There are many ways of keeping your colon clean. Some ways are healthier than others which is something you should consider while searching for the right cleansing method. Many laxatives claim to be a “quick and easy cleanse” but in reality, they could do more harm than good. Laxatives can have the opposite effect on your body and can become habit-forming. It is found that some people have difficulties expelling their waste without the use of laxatives (nature-made or not). Laxatives work as a mild toxin to your body. Once your body detects the toxin, it reacts by flushing it out using your body’s water. If you’re not drinking an abundant amount of water while taking them, it could lead to dehydration.

A true cleanse will help the body rid itself of toxins and plaque build up in your small intestine. There are a few was of doing this in a healthy manner. One way is to get an enema. Enema’s can be given to you by a doctor, or you can do it yourself at home. An enema bag can be found at any major drug store, their typical cost is around ten dollars, and they are indefinably reusable.

Another good cleansing method is periodically drinking tea’s with naturally cleansing herbs. Some of the herbs to look for is rhamnus purshiana bark, cassia senna leaf, rhamnus frangula barks rubus idaeus leaf, berberis vulgaris bark, zingier officinalis root, rheum palmatum root, stevia rebaudiana, funicular vulgaris seed, capsicum frutescens, mentha piperita leaf, chamaemlum nobile, lobelia inflata, and hydrastis canadensis root. The number of cups you should drink a day varies on the blends and brands of tea you by, and the condition of your colon. Typically, you should drink the cleansing tea for around 2 weeks because of powerful effect on the body. Some side affects can occur from a tea-cleans such as nausea, headaches, cramping, and diarrhea.

There is no rush when picking the right cleanse for your body. Colons build up these harmful toxins over a long period of time and can take anywhere from ten to thirty years before a good cleansing is in order. So take your time, and talk to your doctor about what’s best for your body. And remember, keeping a clean colon will result in a stronger, healthier body
