  1. There are tons of home remedies for a sore throat that have been passed down from generation to generation.  Of course one that is widely known is gargling with warm salt water.  There are a lot of old wives tales out there and what works for some people may not work for others.

One such remedy people swear by is hot tea with lemon juice and honey.  A lot of juices such as lemon, pickle or lime are very popular and are used for their acidic content that assists in relieving a painful and irritated throat.  Honey, Ginger and cloves have been known to be a great natural source that contains antimicrobial properties and historically known to treat inflammation.  These ingredients can be mixed into a hot tea or just combined into hot water for drinking.   Try warming some Wild Turkey or Brandy in a pot and then drinking it.  Alcohols such as Brandy and whiskey have antiseptic qualities and can be used to kill bad bacteria.  This is good if you have a lot of mucus production that runs from the nasal cavity down into the throat.  Mucus tends to carry bacteria and can irritate the throat even further.

There are many causes for a sore throat such as allergies, colds and flu’s and step throat. There is one culprit however that is not always thought of and that is heartburn. If you find that gargling with salt water does not help, try some Pepto Bismol. For people who suffer from acid reflux or frequent heartburn this might be your answer.  The Bismuth helps by coating and soothing your throat.  Taking steam showers can also assist in clearing a post nasal drip which contributes to throat soreness as well.   One particular recipe you could try is below.  It will be very sweet but it just might cure your sore throat or at least temporarily stave off the pain and irritation.

A cup of juice from a beet
    *2 Tablespoons of honey
    * Mix together and heat in the
microwave for about 1 minute and then drink

Another remedy for a sore throat is to make a tea super hot and then add 2 mentholyptus cough drops; the Halls Honey Lemon is usually best as far as flavor goes. Stir the tea occasionally until the cough drops melt.  If you generally don’t like tea, try adding milk and honey for taste.  By drinking this concoction 3 to 4 times daily and gargling with salt water in between, your sore throat should start to subside.  This soothing tea can be felt in your nose, throat and chest and is great for cough and congestion.   For a more instant relief you could try and drink hot grapefruit juice with honey.  This seems to work right away and is the fastest remedy for a sore throat.  If your sore throat does not clear up using any of these remedies or  by using over the counter medication, then it is best to see a doctor to evaluate the primary cause.
