1. Everyone has an opinion on what the best classic video game is. These opinions vary from classic Nintendo games, Atari games, and even arcade games. Classic video games are those that came out before Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.

    Mike Tyson’s Punch Out

    The Music, the moves, and those characters. This was a neighborhood favorite growing up. Asking your friends the trick to beating the difficult opponents was a rite of passage. There was also always the one legend in every town that had actually beaten Mike Tyson. What a lucky kid.

    Super Mario Bros. 3

    There are a few Super Mario Brothers games, but this is hands down the best one. Lines formed outside stores in order to purchase this game. This game was so popular there was even a movie based around it’s release (The Wizard). Not only was this game popular, it was fun to play. To this day playing Super Mario Bros. 3 still brings a smile to people’s faces.

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were wildly popular in their day, and they had a few video games on different consoles. However, this is not about those games this is about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the arcade game. Getting together with four of your buddies at the local pizza place and jump kicking foot soldiers was a blast. The fact you could play with four of your friends at the same time upped the entertainment factor of the game even more.

    After Burner

    Speaking of arcade games, none was more exciting to play than After Burner. For those of you who don’t remember After Burner required the player to sit in a cockpit that would move relative to the plane on the screen. It was awesome. This was and is the closest you can get to being Maverick and Goose without flying a real fighter jet.

    The Simpsons: Arcade Game

    This game was very similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You could play with up to four of your friends, and it was side scrolling. The fact you got to smash up Springfield with everyone’s favorite cartoon family was extremely fun.  This game was worth every quarter.

    The Legend of Zelda

    This is one of the best video games ever. The story was deep. The levels were hard. The characters were fun. Throw in a great soundtrack and you could play this game for hours on end. The shiny gold cartridge of the original Nintendo game was also really cool. This was a great introduction to Nintendo’s second favorite son, Link.

    Donkey Kong

    Not only was Donkey Kong a really fun game to play, but it introduced us to Mario for the first time. It was his job to save the beautiful girl from the evil barrel throwing monkey. This game was such a popular arcade game that it has been available on almost every game platform out there.  Everyone is familiar with Donkey Kong; he is a part of American culture.

    Double Dragon

    Double Dragon was a beat’em up game that allowed the player to punch and kick his way to the end. This was another game that was made more fun by playing with a friend. This game was so good that a sequel was made. That game sis good, but not as good as the original.

    Dragon Warrior

    This was one of Nintendo’s first role playing games (RPG). Here you must fight your knight through many strange lands to save the princess from an evil dragon. On your journey the fearless knight encounters numerous monsters and learns the ways of magic. The mythology of this game is so iconic it shows up in other Nintendo games from time to time.

    Maniac Mansion

    When this game came out there was nothing like Maniac Mansion. This game is a point and click adventure through a mansion inhabited by a strange family, and two tentacles. The story for this game was amazing, and the fact that there are multiple ways to win makes the game very re-playable. This game also found a way to blind pop culture references throughout the story that always make the player life. If you have never heard of this game please check it out.

    Each one of these games is special in it’s own right, and takes you back to days gone by. Maybe if you are lucky you can find some of these classic video games online.
