   Name: Magnesium Oxide

   Chemical Property: magnesium oxide is a kind of basic oxide. It has the common gender of basic oxide.

   When exposure to the air, magnesium oxide is easy to absorb water and carbon dioxide. It is soluble in acids and ammonium salt, and can form magnesium hydroxide when slowly interacts with water.



   Physical Property: white powder, stinkless and tasteless. The product is insoluble in water and ethyl alcohol. Melting point is 2852℃, and boiling point is 3600℃. The magnesium oxide has high fire resistance and insulating property.

   Classification: It has light magnesium oxide and heavy magnesium oxide. The light magnesium oxide is less dense, white amorphous powder, tasteless, odorless and non-toxic. The density is 3.58g/cm3. It is insoluble in pure water and organic solvent. Whats more, it will generate magnesium carbonate double salt when meets the carbon dioxide in the air. The heavy magnesium oxide has impact volume. It is white or maize-yellow powder, easy to combine with water. When exposes in the air, the heavy magnesium oxide is easy to absorb water and carbon dioxide. When mixing with magnesium chloride solution, it is easy to gel hardening.

   Applications: the light magnesium oxide mainly used as the raw material of ceramics, enamel, fire-resistant crucible and refractory brick. It also can be used as polishing paste, adhesive and padding of paper, accelerant and activating agent of chloroprene rubber and fluororubber. The heavy magnesium oxide usually used as the plugging compound of man-made floor, man-made marble, heat shield panel and acoustic panel in the construction industry. In the medicine, it often used as antacid and aperient for treating hyperacidity and duodenal ulcer disease. In the chemical industry, it is used as catalyst and the raw material for making magnesium salt. Whats more, the heavy magnesium oxide also can be used for making phenolic plastic and others.
