Business Description: Emily C. Chang has over a decade of writing and editorial experience spanning from academia and journalism to web content and script writing. She was the founding Editor-in-Chief of iaLink, an online magazine with a national subscription base focusing on culture, race/ethnicity, the arts, and entertainment. Emily was a regular columnist of Colorlines Magazine (Utne Reader's Best Independent Press Award 2007), and has contributed articles to A. Magazine, Chicago Magazine, University of Chicago Magazine, Blu, the Columbia Review, and Asianweek, among others.
Emily's written work has also appeared on the stage and screen. Her original work with the performing arts groups I Was Born with 2 Tongues (spoken word poetry) and Mango Tribe (theater) has toured nationally and is currently used in some college ethnic studies and Asian American studies curricula. And her short film, "The Humberville Poetry Slam," (Winner, Hollywood East Film Festival's Gold Coast Award), a comedic mockumentary which she co-wrote with Dan De Lorenzo, screened at over 10 international film festivals.

Experience: Emily C. Chang is an Emmy® Award-winning writer, performer, and producer in television, theater, print, and film. She began performing theatrically at the age of 12 and has since studied under Anna Deveare Smith at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Emily was the host of the popular nationally broadcast show, The Lounge, on iaTV, and has hosted food and travel segments for various programs, including Voyage TV’s Signature Luxury Series. She is also co-host of the documentary series, China on the Frontlines (two 2010 NY Emmy® nominations; 1 win), with NPR/The Atlantic Monthly national correspondent James Fallows.
Emily co-founded the national performance collectives, I Was Born with 2 Tongues (with whom she was named “Top 20 Influential Asian Americans” by A. Magazine) and Mango Tribe, whose theatrical and touring productions she successfully produced and performed in from 1997-2005. Her artistic work has been the recipient of grants from the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment of the Arts (Abrons Arts Settlement), and the Illinois Arts Council.
As writer/director and producer, Emily has also been involved in the TV/film world. She co-wrote and directed the comedic short, The Humberville Poetry Slam (winner, Gold Coast Award-Hollywood East Film Fest; finalist, Golden Reel Award & Linda Mabalot New Directors/New Visions Award). She is also the associate producer of “25 to Life” (dir. Mike Brown), a documentary on HIV that was a part of Tribeca Film Festival’s All-Access Program and IFP’s Documentary Spotlight (semi-finalist for Fledgling Fund’s Socially Conscious Award; recipient of Jerome Foundation Grant). Previously she served as staff producer and development executive at IATV, where she’s produced and directed a number of programs, including segments on the Tribeca Film Festival, the NY-Tokyo Music Festival, and commercials for clients such as Chevy, Wal-Mart, and the Las Vegas Board of Tourism. Aside from being lead writer in many of those commercial projects, Emily is also a freelance writer and was Editor-In-Chief of the nationally distributed iaLink e-zine (winner, ESPN NAMIC Award). Her work has been published in Colorlines Magazine (2007 Winner of the Utne Independent Press Award), A. Magazine, Asianweek, Blu Magazine, Chicago Social Magazine, The University of Chicago Magazine, The Columbia Poetry Review, Monsoon Literary Magazine, and Blu Magazine.
