My Expertise: I would like to say that words are my expertise. I read books like it's going out of style and always knew my profession would involve writing. Through literature I discovered a fascination with Spain and specifically the Spanish Civil War, a topic I have extensively researched. I also have a great passion for music. I am lucky enough to live in Austin, the city coined "The live music capital of the world." In my spare time I hunt down the greatest (and cheapest) live music in the area or attend festivals when life allows. I am also a decent pianist, and recently composed the score for a local short film.
Experience: I left Texas after high school to attend the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. During my college career I worked as a correspondent for The Montgomery County Sentinel in Rockville, Maryland, a weekly local newspaper. I covered the Rockville Mayor and Council, Montgomery County Schools, and (when they were desperate) local sports. During the summers I lived in New York City and worked for ASCAP's (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers) Playback magazine, a quarterly publication which focused on music trends, artists happenings, and music events. I am now a freelance writer, specializing in archival research. I learned this form of research at the hands of one of the best, Dr. Ira Chinoy, and was fortunate to live around some of the most impressive research centers in the country during college. In my most recent project I delved into the Texas Collection, an archival facility at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. I collected information on Samuel Palmer Brooks and historic Texas maps. Both articles with be featured as interviews in the "Treasures of the Texas Collection" excerpt on NPR this summer. less
