Burl bowls should never be used for food. Burls are often treated with non food safe finishes to protect the wood make them shine or stains to even out the color. These gallery bowls often too small for family salad bowls and to expensive to risk being used as a serving dish. Live edge bowls should never be used for food. Fragile edges are collection areas for bacteria. You may store fruit in live edge bowls or leave them in the display case.
