Are teachers respected?

I taught college for a number of years. I expected my students to respect me, and I also felt I had to respect them. I occasionally had a trouble maker or class clown who just wanted to disrupt everything, but for the most part, my students and I were always nice to each other. The point at which things could go wrong were when a student didn’t get a grade he/she wanted, and instead of coming to my office hours to talk to me about the paper (which I always encouraged), I’d get emails calling me a *****, an a**hole, accused me of not grading my own work, of using drugs…you name it! It was awful. And I would tell them that this kind of email wasn’t acceptable and they just didn’t see what was wrong with it. Then, parents would get involved and some of them said the same thing, and ALSO didn’t see why it was unacceptable. The above people accounted for about 2% of all my students, though. So I would say overall, I was respected by nearly everyone…even liked I felt administration didn’
