Are there any similarities between Melbourne (as a city) and Palm Jumeirah?
There’s a large waterfront development in Melbourne, known as Docklands, and I was involved in the acquisition and development of that site. Palm Jumeirah is similar to Docklands in that it’s now at a stage where it has to evolve into an operational community. Melbourne and Palm Jumeirah are also similar in terms of marketing and events, maritime operations and population. The population of Melbourne’s CBD is 110,000. That’s a similar number to what is expected for Palm Jumeirah. How do you feel about being appointed to care for one of the most exciting projects in the world? I’m honoured to be here. It’s both astonishing and demanding, but it’s great. The opportunity to make a contribution to Palm Jumeirah and to facilitate the transition of a unique engineering solution to an amazing global city is stimulating.
