Do AMs bite a lot?
If an AM is trained and socialized, it wont bite except as a last resort. (Except if its hurt, injured, or sick; under these circumstances, all breeds of dog will potentially bite.) But all puppies go through a nipping stage, and whenever your dog AM or otherwise puts his mouth around your hands (or other parts of your body), you need to correct this behavior right away. Because AMs dont have fingers or thumbs to grab you, puppies often try to get your attention by mouthing your hand. Mouthing is when a dog grabs your body with his mouth, but without biting. A puppy might mouth your hand when it wants you to use that hand to pet it. But even though theres absolutely no malice, its important to correct mouthing behavior, because mouthing can lead to rougher play and a worried mother who sees your big AM mouthing her childs hand might anticipate the worst and become fearful.
