Do NIOSH approved respirators require CSA approval for sale in Canada?

No. The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) does NOT certify or approve individual makes, styles or models of respirators for use or sale in Canada. The CSA accepts NIOSH certification or approval of respirators for use in the occupational setting. The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) has prepared and published a standard which provides guidance for use of respirators. CSA Z94.4 standard – Selection Care and Use of Respirators, specifies requirements for the selection, care and use of respirators. The purpose is to protect workers from known or potential respiratory hazards in their environment. The standard also outlines components for an effective respiratory program. The standard does not address the selection of respirators for use against infectious agents or nuclear, biological or chemical agents.
