YES! It angers me how the media makes schizophrenia sound like an excuse to not get in trouble for things! I’m a diagnoses paranoid schizophrenic (obviously highly functioning), un-medicated (by choice), and I have been my whole life. I have never committed a crime nor do i feel the need too. I have been in instances that I have been inclined I guess you could say to commit serious crimes but I refrained. Its true that schizophrenia is degenerative and its also true that it can cause you to feel like crimes and such are what needs to be done but it is ALSO true that it is possible to NOT commit them. I believe that there are plenty of ‘prison’ mental institutions and such that would be the best place for these people for the rest of their lives. I also believe that there is a good margin of those of us with PS who could function fine in jail.
