Does credible service with other Illinois public retirement systems count toward SURS service when calculating group health insurance?

Only certain systems qualify. If you retire reciprocally with SERS, JRS, GARS, or STRS (only if you had State of Illinois Group Insurance while employed), you may use those years of service to count toward the 20 years. Service with other systems such as IMRF does not count toward the insurance years, but does for retirement calculations. Normally, the last system the member was participating in carries the group insurance, but there are exceptions.
