Does joint manipulation hurt?
Joint manipulation typically does not hurt. However, every patient experiences joint manipulation differently and its comfort may or may not be affected by pre-existing conditions, such as fibromyalgia and arthritis. Manipulation may be accompanied by an audible release, often referred to as a “cracking” or “popping” noise. This noise is the result of gases being released from within the joint capsule and may or may not precede joint manipulation.
