Yes, parenting classes are offered. The Active Parenting Class for parents who have teenagers is held periodically. These classes meet once per week for six weeks. The time of the classes are 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Classes are held at the Department of Social Services. Childcare is provided. Referrals for these classed are received from DSS staff. Parents, who want to make a direct referral for themselves or find out dates when classes are offered, must contact the Intensive Family Services Supervisor. There are also parenting classes for parents with younger children. The Nurturing Parent Class, sponsored through Smart Start, is a class for parents with children 0 to age 3. There is also an In-Home Parenting Counselor who works in the homes with parents and their children. For further information, contact the Intensive Family Services Supervisor at the Department of Social Services. There is also an Active Parenting Class for parents with children age 2 to 12.
