Does the medication Gaunficine affect you the same as Adderall?
GUANFACINE (brand name Tenex) acts the same way as clonidine, each drug has been on the market for over a decade to treat blood pressure. These drugs act in the brain to cause drowsiness, and also effect the nerve signals leaving the brain (called sympathetic outflow) which control heart rate and blood pressure. It also causes Growth Hormone to be secreted, too much growth hormone is known to promote leukema, but may oppose the growth inhibition of the amphetamines (like adderall). The main hazard with clonidine like drugs are missed doses, many people get a rebound increase in sympathic outflow which can cause a dangerous rise in blood presssure, so high that it might pop a blood vessel in the brain (stroke). If it were not for these side effect risks I would not be against it. Adderall (amphetamine) has many effects similiar to sympathetic outflow, so to go into clonidine like withdrawal while on adderall could be extra dangerous. The FDA does not properly warn of this.
