Several athletes with whom BALCO claimed affiliation have tested positive over the years. Conte was indirectly involved with shot putter C.J. Hunter, Marion Jones’ ex-huband, who tested positive for a steroid shortly before the 2000 Olympics. Conte appeared at a press conference with Hunter and theorized that Hunter tested positive by using a supplement that had become contaminated by steroids because it had been mixed in a vat that once contained banned substances. Conte accused of the International Olympic Committee and IAAF of withholding information that could have helped Hunter avoid a doping offense, the BBC reported.
