How are drugs, biologicals and devices paid?
The costs of drugs, biologicals, and devices will be packaged into APCs to the primary procedure or treatment with which they are associated except for the following: • Transitional pass-through payments for innovative medical devices, drugs, and biologicals, which include payments for orphan drugs, cancer therapy drugs, biologicals and brachytherapy, radiopharmaceutical drugs and biological products and new medical devices, drugs and biologicals • Separate APC payment for drugs and radiopharmaceuticals for which the median cost per day exceeds $60 • Separate payment for “specified covered outpatient drugs” representing present acquisition and overhead costs •
