How are highway cam locations chosen?
Rural highway cams are installed at locations that give travellers an indication of the road and weather conditions that they can expect. For example a number of highway cams were installed at locations where the Ministry already had weather stations. Urban highway cams will also give an indication of the road and weather conditions but they also have the additional criteria of being installed to give an indication of the level of traffic using the highway. For example, cameras that were already installed at Local Operations Centres for traffic control at key locations around the Lower Mainland, were tapped to provide images to the B.C. Highways Cam website.
