How are students assessed?
A. Students are assessed using multiple strategies, including but not limited to homework, projects, participation in class discussions, papers, tests and quizzes. For the graduating classes of 2009-2014, students will receive letter grades (A-E) at the end of each quarter and at the end of each semester. In addition, they will receive written comments from their teachers at the end of first and third quarters.
Upon arrival, all students are interviewed and tested in listening, speaking, reading and writing in order to determine their levels of proficiency. Each student is assigned to one of five levels. During the term, students are evaluated on the basis of their attendance, preparation, out-of-class assignments, and quiz results. Each student’s progress, as well as attendance record, is reported by instructors on a weekly basis. Immediate action is taken by the director if an instructor’s report indicates that a student needs help or counseling.
