How do I screen for reduced susceptibility to vancomycin and vancomycin resistance in staphylococci?

A. Disk diffusion is not recommended for differentiation of reduced susceptibility to vancomycin (MICs 4 to 8ug/mL) from susceptible strains (0.5 to 2ug/mL). MIC determination should be performed. The vancomycin screen agar used for enterococci (BHIA with Vancomycin, Cat. no. G14) may be used, but should be confirmed by MIC.
