How do ovulation tests work?
Ovulation tests (opks, ovulation predictors) function by detecting the reproductive hormone LH – or luteinizing hormone. Just before ovulation, women will experience an “LH surge” – a brief, marked increase in the amount of luteinizing hormone in their systems. Ovulation test kits detect this sudden LH surge, allowing you to predict, with great accuracy, when you will ovulate. A positive on an ovulation test indicates that a woman will most likely become fertile over the next 3 days – with peak fertility at 24 to 36 hours after the LH, or positive ovulation test. Please note that some fertility medications can confound results (e.g., clomid can cause a false positive ovulation test if you begin testing too early in your cycle). Once you receive a positive result, we recommend having intercourse daily over the next 3 to 4 days. Let’s take a closer look at how ovulation tests work in relation to what happens in the body and with your reproductive hormones. At the start of your cycle, the
I used the First Response Ovulation Detection kit – I conceived the first month I used it. I wasn’t on the 14 day schedule and using these daily sticks really helped detect my best days. It’s definitely worth a shot. Info: The FIRST RESPONSE® Daily Ovulation Test is over 99% accurate in laboratory studies in detecting the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge in your urine. The LH surge indicates when you’re most fertile and likely to conceive. Each FIRST RESPONSE® Daily Ovulation Test Kit contains twenty testing sticks for a full month of testing. The FIRST RESPONSE® Daily Ovulation Test makes it easy to identify your LH surge. Detecting your LH surge is now even easier — by allowing you to track ovulation for 20 consecutive days to help you determine your peak fertility days, you can count on FIRST RESPONSE® to help you get pregnant sooner. Your two most fertile days begin with the LH surge. You are most likely to get pregnant if you have intercourse within 24-36 hours after you detect your
I suggest using the Clear Blue Easy OPK sticks. They are very easy to read (smiley faces). These are easier to read than the pink lines. Depending on the length of your menstrual cycle, you would begin to use the sticks during your fertile days before you ovulate. The sticks will determine your LH (lutenizing hormone) which is prior to ovulation. This is one of your most fertile days to try to conceive. You have 24-48 hours to ttc. In my opinion, I would try before a positive OPK stick, when you do get a LH, & afterwords just to make sure. Good luck! Try to relax & have fun trying:) Baby dust to you!
