How Do You Repair Buckled Ceramic Wall Tile?
A ceramic wall tile that’s buckling away from the wall on one side indicates that moisture is behind it. Often, the problem is that the tile wasn’t properly grouted, or the grout had cracked. If you don’t fix the problem quickly, it could affect the surrounding tiles. The proper method or correction is to carefully remove and reset the tile, or replace it if it can’t be reused. Dig out the grout around the buckled tile using your grout saw. Push and pull the carbide blade of the saw back and forth over the grout lines, working your way down gradually. Remove as much of the grout as you can. Set the tip of your chisel into the grout line on the side of the tile that has buckled the highest, putting the sharp edge against the point where the base of the tile meets the wall. Tap the chisel with your hammer, chiseling out as much of the mortar or glue as you can without breaking the tile. Work your way around the other sides of the tile.
