How does pharmacologic therapy compare with catheter ablation for treatment of atrial fibrillation?
In a randomized multicenter study, Jais et al compared catheter ablation with pharmacologic therapy in 112 patients with atrial fibrillation resistant to at least one antiarrhythmic drug. Ablation consisted of pulmonary vein isolation, with treatment of extrapulmonary vein lesions at the discretion of the physician; patients underwent up to 3 ablation procedures.
