How does this disaster compare other recent disasters such as the Indian Ocean tsunami and Pakistan earthquake?
Every natural disaster is different and it’s not possible to make direct comparisons. But what’s clear is that this is a major humanitarian disaster affecting up to one million of the poorest people in South East Asia. Oxfam International supports partner organizations in Myanmar and will provide them with funding assistance and expertise on humanitarian response. We also will be working in conjunction with the UN and other agencies to respond to immediate need and support people’s recovery.
