How fast do baby pigeons grow?
A. Pigeons grow at a remarkable rate. Anecdotally, they appear to double in size every other day of their first week of life. A young pigeon is fully feathered and ready to leave the nest at about 30 days. When putting on a permanent, seamless identification band, special care must be taken to ensure it is placed on the bird’s leg within four to six days after hatching. Any time before that, the band will be too large and will slip off. Any time after that, the band will be too small and will not slip over the foot.
