How many youth in Hamilton are homeless?
Like defining youth homelessness, counting is difficult. Our best method of counting is to look at who is using services designated for street-involved/homeless youth. This does miss youth who are not, for whatever reason, accessing services but this is thought to be the most accurate of all methods. According to the statistics at five different youth homelessness services in 2004 there were at least 600 street-involved youth in Hamilton. This number is likely an under-representation as they do not include youth who do not access services and who may be imminently at-risk of homelessness.
