I live in New England. Do I cut roses back now, or wait il spring?
If they are established, they are extremely hardy. I wait until mine have hardened off in the fall and developed hips. This tells me the roots are ready for winter. The spring and summer I always keep them deadheaded so they will bloom more profusely (we have about 75 bushes, from teas to minis here). I know New England has much earlier winters than we do in southern Oregon, so your roses may have already gone into dormancy. If so, you can prune them to the canes (tea roses) or to the shape (all the others) any time now. I do suggest stripping any leftover leaves so you will have less trouble with fungus in the spring.
