I often hear it called childhood lead poisoning. Why are children the only ones who are poisoned by lead?
Lead is a poison that can damage our brains and nervous systems, so it is particularly dangerous for children because their brains are still developing. This can lead to a reduction in IQ, attention deficit disorders, hearing loss and many other neurological disorders. Childhood lead poisoning has been called “The Silent Epidemic” because these kinds of disorders are rarely diagnosed as being caused by exposure to lead. Once lead is in your body it can stay there for more than thirty years.
