If a patient is discharged from an acute care hospital to a Medicare-certified swing bed in a SNF, is the discharge status of 03 correct, or should it be 61?
SNFs do not have Medicare-certified swing beds. Use 03 if the patient is discharged/transferred to skilled nursing facility (SNF) with Medicare certification in anticipation of covered skilled care. Use Code 61 for reporting patients discharged/transferred to a SNF level of care within the hospital’s approved swing bed arrangement.
