A-6: (a) In general. A plan is not a cafeteria plan unless the plan requires that participants make elections among the benefits offered under the plan. In general, an election will not be deemed to have been made if, after a participant has elected and begun to receive a benefit under the plan, the participant is permitted to revoke the election during the period of coverage under the plan, even if the revocation relates only to the remaining portion of the coverage period with respect to the benefit and even if the revocation is in response to a change in the tax treatment of such benefit.
