Isabel Bigley (real name Isobel Quigley, mercifully changed for the show) was the original Sarah and will be forever known as the singer who started the tradition of the Broadway soprano with three voices with her rendition of “I’ll Know When My Love Comes Along.” On the “I’ll know” she sang the high note beginning with a wispy unsupported high voice, then switched to a normal middle voice on “when my love,” followed by a croaking almost contralto “comes along.” Audiences giggled every night at it but she still go the Tony.
