Is Iams pet food really that bad?

I fed my cat Iams dry weight control formula food for years (my cat’s a fatty). He didn’t markedly lose weight, but I figured if he wasn’t gaining any weight we were doing OK. I was wrong. He was eight when he was diagnosed with diabetes (about a year and a half ago), and now I know that the food played a major part in that. Since then, though, I’ve learned a lot about both feline diabetes and feline nutrition. With people, you want to eat a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, limit fat intake, and not take in too many of your calories from protein (unless you’re really an athlete). Cat’s are kind of the opposite. The bulk of their calories should come from proteins, fat doesn’t need to be limited in the same way it does for people, and carbs and fiber should be as close to non-existent as possible. Consider what wild cats eat: dead animals. They’re all protein and fat. A cat might munch on some grass for filler, but 95% of a wild cat’s diet is flesh. Even though house cat’s aren’t out
